What is Hampshire Hogs?
Hampshire Hogs is a unique sculpture trail developed and launched by Destination Basingstoke. After a tough couple of years it’s a welcome way to encourage visitors back into our town centres, retail locations and green spaces. The trail is made up of 17 life-size hog statues, each of which have been hand-painted by local artists. Each hog design takes inspiration from the colours, people, places and heritage of Hampshire. The team here at Apptaura have built the Hampshire Hogs app to guide visitors around the trail, highlighting the work of the artists involved and the generous contributions made by local sponsors and businesses.
We’ve created a touch-free tourism experience that users of all ages and technical abilities can engage with. The app is easy to use and integrates with the major mapping apps most users already have on their phones. That means users will be able to navigate to their chosen hogs or to the nearest statue. All at the tap of a button. Hog-hunters can tick off each spotted hog as they go. Each hog has a special page on the app, so if anyone can’t make it to every last pig, they can still appreciate the designs and hard work that has gone into them.
It’s been an absolute blast to work on such an exciting and rewarding project with the team at Destination Basingstoke. Most of the team live in Basingstoke, so being able to give something back to our town makes us feel flipping awesome.
